Biography:
Professor Gedanken completed his undergraduate studies (magna cum laude) at Bar-Ilan University in 1965 and went on to receive his M.Sc. degree in 1967. He continued his graduate studies at Tel Aviv University under Joshua Jortner and received his Ph.D. in 1972. After a brief postdoctoral period with Otto Schnepp at USC in Los Angeles, he returned to Bar-Ilan in 1975 as part of the senior faculty where he served as chairman from 1982-85. He has published over 270 scientific papers, was awarded a Minerva Fellowship, and was a visiting scientist at AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1980-8l, 1984 and 1987-88, and at NIDDK, NIH in the summers of 1989, 1990 and 1991. Prof. Gedanken has recently applied for two US patents. The first deals with the ambient oxidation of hydrocarbons using amorphous nanophased metals and alloys as catalysts, while the second patent describes a sonochemical method for the preparation of luminescent silicon.

Research Overview:
Development of novel methods for the fabrication of nanomaterials, sonochemistry, microwave heating, sonoelectrochemistry, and RAPET (Reaction under Autogenic Pressure at Elevated Temperatures). Gedanken has published over 170 papers on nanomaterials in the last 5 years.
